
Red Maple Hair is the home of Kate Elisabeth Russell, a writer living in Portland, Maine. Her fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in Hayden’s Ferry Review, Crab Orchard Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, Barrelhouse, Redivider, and other journals. As a Maine native, her fiction takes place across the state, from Machigonne to Madawaska, with an emphasis on young women and the aftermath of psychological trauma, while her essays and micro-memoirs focus on feminism and failed relationships. Kate holds an MFA from Indiana University, a BFA from University of Maine at Farmington, and will begin work towards a PhD in creative writing at University of Kansas in Fall 2013.
